My role
I work as an illustrator and visual identity designer on ENSP/Fiocruz communication projects about the health and rights of people with disabilities. The challenge was to move away from the serious or charity-driven tone that often marks this subject and propose communication that is cheerful, colorful and respectful. The visual language is mine: through research and in dialogue with researchers and coordinators, I built a universe of characters, colors and scenes.
Over 4 years, this universe has shaped more than 30 booklets commissioned by the public sector, poster series and campaigns such as the Ministry of Culture’s on pregnancy and disability. Most recently, I created the visual identity and more than 250 illustrations for the online course on ableism, launched by Fiocruz/ENSP. I also developed the visual identity of a few projects and their promotional materials, such as t-shirts and bottles. The materials were validated with people with disabilities, distributed through Brazil’s public health system (SUS), translated into English and Spanish and taken to UN events in New York.
